Dear Parents of Honors English students,
Our school goal is to create a reading list that exposes students to different genres and fosters student reflection along with family conversation.
Typical on many summer reading lists for middle school honors programs are books categorized as young adult (YA). The American Library Association and Young Adult Library Service Associations define young adult as someone between the ages of 12 and 18. The story line usually correlates to this age group’s experiences. YA literature often focuses on the changes and challenges some experience during youth.
Our summer reading provides choices. I encourage you to work with your child to choose books from the list that are right for them and you. We will continue to review our list and seek feedback; with the myriad of books available it will take time and flexibility to create the best list possible.
If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to contact me at [email protected]
Thank you and have a great summer!
